The Department of Electric Power Engineering (DEPE) at Technical university of Košice is one of the profiling departments of Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Informatics. It was founded on the 1st October 1973 as an independent science and research unit of the faculty. The most important structural changes of the department were:
• Integration of the department with the Department of Electrical Heating and Electrochemistry on the 1st September 1981
• Incorporation of the Department of High Voltage Engineering into the Department of Electric Power Engineering on the 1st October 2003
DEPE guarantees in the
field of study Electrical and Electronics Engineering the study programme Electric
Power Engineering in bachelor, master and PhD. study. DEPE educates basic
subjects of the study programme Electric Power Engineering, e.g.:
- Power transmission
- Electric Power Plants
- Design of the illuminating systems
- Faults in Electric Power System
- Electrical installation and substation
- High Voltage Engineering
- Protection Systems in Electric Power System
- Quality and reliability of electric power delivery
- Optimization of Electric Power System Operation
- Electric power system operation control
- Transient stability of power system
- Fundamentals of designing in electric power engineering
- Diagnostic in electric power engineering
The department improves the educational process also in cooperation with foreign universities in the framework of ERASMUS+ programme. The fundamental mission of the department is the education of new graduates in bachelor, master and PhD. study. There are overall 444 graduates in bachelor and 2158 graduates in master study for our department. 67 graduates of PhD. study graduated in external and internal form of study.
In the scientific and research field the department staff solve projects of basic and applied research in topics like:

- renewable energy sources
- the operation of electric power system
- designing in electric power engineering and electric power
devices
- Automated electric installation systems
- Ageing of electric power devices
- Diagnostic in electric power engineering
- production of electric energy

- High Voltage Engineering (insulators, patents....)
- Lighting technology
- protection of electric devices
High quality results of the scientific and research work of the department staff are published in renowned impacted and reviewed international scientific journals as well as presented on domestic and foreign conferences.
The department solves also task required by electric power engineering industry (SEPS, VSD, Siemens, ABB, etc.).
