V4GRID

The V4Grid project is an international initiative aimed at integrating electric vehicles into the power grid through Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) technology. The project aims to transform the existing V2X technology into a full-fledged service in Central Europe. Through pilot projects with V2X chargers, we want to support the wider use of this technology and contribute to the stability of power grids and the development of electromobility.

The Technical University of Košice (TUKE) plays a key role in the V4Grid project. As part of the project, TUKE will participate in the development and testing of chargers for electric vehicles with V2X functionality. The university has a state-of-the-art Smart Industry Lab, which allows modeling and testing the behavior of the power grid with integrated renewable sources and electric vehicles. TUKE will thus contribute to the development of smart energy solutions in the region.

This project brings significant benefits to the entire society. By making the use of energy from electric vehicles and renewable sources more efficient, it contributes to a more sustainable use of natural resources and a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. Thanks to smart charging systems, the stability of the electricity grid is increased and dependence on fossil fuels is reduced. Electric vehicle owners can benefit from new business models that allow them to sell excess energy back to the grid. Overall, the project supports the transition to a low-carbon economy and increases the energy self-sufficiency of individuals and companies. Specific entities in Slovakia that can significantly benefit from this project include energy companies looking for new business models and energy use opportunities, car and component manufacturers eager to expand into the growing electric vehicle market, construction companies focused on the construction of charging infrastructure and smart buildings, IT companies developing software solutions for the energy sector, municipalities and cities striving to improve the quality of life of their residents and reduce emissions, as well as households looking for ways to reduce their energy costs and actively participate in the energy system.

The Visegrad group for Vehicle to X

The transformation of our energy systems to renewable energies poses many challenges. One challenge is that renewable energy fluctuates greatly over time and needs to be balanced to match demand. The Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) technology offers a solution by allowing cars to draw energy from the grid to recharge their batteries. Or send it back to the grid. The V4Grid project addresses regulatory challenges and a lack of understanding of this technology. The partners pilot V2X chargers in seven regions and develop policy recommendations to inform public authorities about V2X potentials.
